Hyundai ElecCity FCEV Achieves Milestone 5 Years After 2019 Launch
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 6th that the cumulative sales of its hydrogen electric bus, Elec City FCEV, reached 1,032 units as of the end of last month.
Launched in 2019 as an urban hydrogen bus, it operates with a maximum output of 180 kW fuel cell system, a hydrogen tank with a capacity of 875 liters, and a high-output 78.4 kWh battery. The company explained that it is suitable for routes with heavy traffic congestion, long-distance routes, and routes with hills where electricity consumption is high.
It can travel up to 550 km on a single charge. Operating one hydrogen bus for a year can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 72 tons, which is similar to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by 2,700 pine trees in one year. Including this hydrogen bus, Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell models for large trucks, express buses, and passenger cars.
To celebrate the sale of 1,000 units, the company held an event on the 4th at the Namyang Technical Research Center in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, and a nearby hotel, inviting 40 people including chairpersons of regional bus transport associations and representatives of transportation companies. Earlier this year in February, Hyundai signed a business agreement with KD Transportation Group, the largest land transportation company in Korea, to convert metropolitan airport, wide-area, and city buses to hydrogen buses by 2027.
A Hyundai Motor Company official said, "Along with government support, Hyundai also provides free repair parts worth about 40 million KRW per hydrogen bus," adding, "We will continue to actively strive to expand the supply of hydrogen buses."
