Spokesperson Kim Hyeran Criticized for "Harsh Words" Toward the President
On the 5th, the People Power Party strongly criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, calling his remarks during the Incheon Ganghwa County mayoral by-election campaign "extreme language."
During the campaign, Lee Jae-myung stated, "If someone does not do their job properly, they should be punished by changing them through elections, and if the situation is so serious that waiting for elections is not an option, removing them even in the middle of their term is democracy and representative politics." Some interpreted this as an allusion to a "presidential impeachment scenario."
Kim Hye-ran, spokesperson for the People Power Party, issued a statement calling this "an anti-constitutional challenge that directly contradicts representative democracy." She questioned, "What does it mean to just remove someone without elections?" and asked if Lee's remarks stemmed from fear of his own judicial risks.
Seo Beom-su, Secretary-General, also strongly criticized Lee on Facebook, saying, "Lee Jae-myung has finally revealed his true intentions." Targeting Lee, he added, "As November approaches, it seems he has lost his mind," and sharply stated, "The person who should be removed and sent to prison is you."
The People Power Party emphasized that the Ganghwa County mayoral by-election is an election to choose a local worker and urged Lee not to turn it into a battleground for political strife.
