Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) held the "4th Walkable City Strategy Meeting" in the mayor's office on the 4th.
The meeting was attended by 18 people, including Mayor Kim Dong-geun, the deputy mayor, the director of the Walkable City Bureau, and heads of related departments.
The main topics included ▲maintenance of road facilities to improve the walking environment ▲garden city space connection strategy "Jeongwon-euro (路)" ▲current status of usage at Ja-il Forest Bathing Area ▲installation of an ecological trail within Howon Stream.
Short-term strategies were discussed such as management improvement plans for bollards and private guide signs to ensure pedestrian safety and urban aesthetics, as well as program operation plans to revitalize the use of Ja-il Forest Bathing Area, including woodworking experiences and family camping. In addition, medium- to long-term strategies were also discussed, including cultural and economic connection strategies for Songsan Waterfront Garden, Minrak Sports Park, and Uijeongbu Music Garden through connecting disconnected spaces, and the installation of an ecological trail within Howon Stream for healthy ecological stream restoration.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, "A walkable city ultimately aims to create an urban environment where everyone can live safely and comfortably," and added, "I hope that efforts will be made to establish a sustainable Uijeongbu City that citizens can truly feel."
Going forward, the city plans to continue creating a walkable Uijeongbu through regular strategy meetings with ongoing interest and action.
