Deployment of 2,417 Personnel Including Police Stations and Riot Police
Focus on Crowd Control and Safety Maintenance
Expected Crowd of 1 Million, Traffic Control and Safety Guidance Required
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 4th that it will provide safety management support in preparation for the large crowds expected at the "2024 Seoul World Fireworks Festival," which will be held around Yeouido and Ichon Hangang Park from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM on the 5th.
The police will focus on crowd control in cooperation with the event organizers and local governments. The Public Safety Deputy Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will oversee the operation on-site, while the chiefs of Yeongdeungpo, Yongsan, Mapo, and Dongjak Police Stations will be responsible for their respective zones.
A total of 2,417 police personnel will be deployed for crowd and safety management, including 558 officers from police stations, 1,380 officers from 23 riot police units, and 160 officers from 20 mobile patrol teams.
The police have requested the organizers to enhance safety measures at the popular viewing spots of Yeouido and Ichon Hangang Park. Steel fences will be installed on one lower lane of Mapo Bridge and Hangang Bridge to facilitate crowd movement and serve as emergency passageways.
After the event ends, police officers will work alongside Seoul Metro and Seoul city officials at stations expected to experience heavy crowding?Yeouinaru Station, Yeouido Station, Saetgang Station, and Daebang Station?to ensure smooth use of public transportation without inconvenience.
In particular, on the day of the event, some stations may implement non-stop train passes if crowds become too dense, so it is necessary to check traffic control situations in advance.
The police stated, "Yeouinaru Station is expected to have non-stop train passes during crowd congestion," and added, "Please check the traffic control times and subway station locations beforehand, and actively cooperate with police order maintenance guidance and control to ensure a safe viewing experience."
Meanwhile, it is expected that about one million people will attend the fireworks festival.
