Yonsei University Barun ICT Research Institute Selected for 2024 Global Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project

Research Funding Support for the Next 6 Years

Yonsei University announced on the 5th that the Barun ICT Research Institute has been finally selected for the 2024 Global Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Research Support Project (Research Institute Support Type) hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

With this project selection, the Barun ICT Research Institute will receive research funding for the next six years. The Global Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Research Support Project aims to find solutions to social problems and produce world-class research outcomes through convergence research centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and information and communication technology (ICT).

Through this project, the Barun ICT Research Institute plans to collaborate with CAIDG at the National University of Singapore Business School, the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University, and the HAI Institute at Stanford University to explore solutions to various social issues arising from the advancement of AI and ICT technologies.

The main research areas include ▲ development and evaluation of AI and digital literacy education programs to bridge the digital divide ▲ research on misinformation issues caused by the advancement of generative AI and establishment of a trustworthy information environment ▲ design and evaluation of programs to prevent ICT overdependence ▲ policy proposals through strengthening personal information protection and data management measures.

Director Kim Beom-su said, "The Barun ICT Research Institute has mainly studied social problems caused by ICT technology over the past 10 years. We are pleased to be able to prepare comprehensive countermeasures for social issues caused by AI and ICT technologies through this project," adding, "In particular, research addressing generative AI and digital literacy issues will have a positive impact on society."
