The Best Hydrogen Product Selected by the Media is HD Hyundai Hydrogen Engine

HD Hyundai Infracore's hydrogen engine ‘HX12’ was selected as the best product by the press at the hydrogen industry exhibition H2MEET 2024.

The H2MEET Organizing Committee and the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, which hosted the event, announced the results of the Best Product Media Awards on the 4th. The winners were decided by votes from journalists of 58 media outlets affiliated with the Automobile Journalists Association, who covered the event site and evaluated audience response, market potential, and technological innovation.

The grand prize winner, Best Pick, was HD Hyundai Infracore’s ‘HX12’, an 11ℓ-class vehicle hydrogen engine. It is praised for its superior maximum output and torque relative to displacement compared to competitors. It can also be used to retrofit old vehicles as it can utilize the existing internal combustion engine platform. The company plans to mass-produce hydrogen engines for trucks in the second half of next year.

The Excellent Pick was awarded to Kolon Industries’ moisture control device for fuel cells. The company explained that this is a key component of the air supply system in hydrogen fuel cell systems, where a polymer composite membrane selectively permeates moisture to maximize the system’s electricity generation efficiency and improve durability.

The ‘Ammonia Cracking Equipment’ from Aprotium, a commercial hydrogen production company, was also selected as an Excellent Pick. Ammonia cracking is a method of producing clean hydrogen by decomposing liquefied ammonia imported via maritime transport. This company received positive responses at this year’s event by utilizing digital media and experiential content and organizing the hydrogen business value chain in an easy-to-understand manner. Aprotium is collaborating with Topsoe, a Danish environmental technology specialist company, as a technology partner.

Gang Nam-hoon, Chairman of the H2MEET Organizing Committee, said, "I am pleased that hydrogen-related innovative technologies can be spotlighted once again through this media award," adding, "We will continue to promote the expansion of hydrogen technology and cooperation across various fields for the growth of the global hydrogen industry through H2MEET."

The event, held over three days from the 25th at KINTEX in Goyang City, saw participation from 317 companies and institutions from 24 countries worldwide. Approximately 41,000 visitors attended. It was praised for serving as a global hydrogen industry platform by conducting various programs such as exhibitions, conferences, and global partnership consultations. Next year’s event will be held around the end of October to commemorate Hydrogen Day.
