Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Job Foundation are recruiting the second round of participants for the ‘2024 Platform Workers’ Industrial Accident Insurance Support Project’ to ensure a safe working environment for platform workers. The application period is from October 7 to November 4.

First implemented nationwide in 2021, this project was established to protect workers who work through digital platforms, such as delivery workers, designated driver workers, and freight truck owners. It supports 80% of the industrial accident insurance premium burden paid by platform workers, up to a maximum of 12,040 KRW per month for one year.

This year, unlike last year, the support target has been expanded to include freight truck owners, allowing more platform workers to benefit.

Previously, the province supported a total of 9,432 cases over three years from 2021 to 2023, and this year plans to support 2,800 platform workers within the province.

When platform workers apply, the process involves verifying industrial accident insurance enrollment and premium payment through the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service and the National Health Insurance Service, and then providing the support funds. The payment priority is given first to those with the lowest income, followed by new applicants in 2024.

Applications can be submitted from October 7 to November 4 through the Gyeonggi Job Foundation’s integrated application system, Jobaba Apply (apply.jobaba.net).

Eligibility requires applicants to be residents of Gyeonggi Province as of the announcement date and to be enrolled in industrial accident insurance as food or quick service delivery workers, designated drivers, or freight truck owners.

Required application documents include the support application form, consent form for collection, use, and provision of personal information to third parties, a copy of a bankbook in the applicant’s name, and a worker’s industrial accident insurance premium payment confirmation (issued by the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service), all issued within one month of the announcement date.

Yoon Deok-ryong, CEO of the Gyeonggi Job Foundation, said, “We expect this project to contribute not only to the prevention of industrial accidents and protection of workers but also to enhancing workers’ self-esteem as laborers. Especially after the abolition of the exclusivity requirement in July last year, it will greatly help improve awareness of industrial accident insurance.”
