70th Anniversary Performance of the National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea
The National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea will hold a dance exhibition on the afternoon of the 5th at the Arko Arts Theater Grand Theater in Daehangno, Seoul, to commemorate its 70th anniversary. The event, titled 'Dance, Myth of the Future,' features academy members Jo Heung-dong, Park Myung-sook, Kim Sook-ja, Jung Seung-hee, Choi Cheong-ja, and their disciples performing on stage together.
Jo Heung-dong, a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property 'Taepyeongmu' and Seoul City Intangible Cultural Property 'Hallyangmu,' will present the Korean dance 'Love,' inspired by the story of 'Chunhyangjeon.' Park Myung-sook, who founded the contemporary dance company known as Korea's first modern dance troupe, will perform the modern dance 'Prayer for the Dead Soul,' which embodies the ritual of summoning spirits (Chohon).
Additionally, Kim Sook-ja, a holder of the National Intangible Cultural Property 'Han Young-sook Style Seungmu,' will perform the Korean dance 'Tragic Love.' Jung Seung-hee, former dean of the Dance Department at Korea National University of Arts, will present the Korean dance 'Sotdae,' and Choi Cheong-ja, former president of the Korean Modern Dance Association, will perform the modern dance 'Magic of Love.'
The academy will also showcase performances by veteran dancers such as Jo Taek-won, Kim Cheon-heung, Kim Baek-bong, Song Beom, Im Seong-nam, Kim Moon-sook, Song Su-nam, and Kim Hak-ja through a special commemorative video. An official stated, "Through this performance, we hope that the roots and identity of Korean dance will be preserved and that our dance will continue to develop steadily."
