Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 3rd that the "Temple Food Contest" was successfully held at Hoeryongsa Temple, Traditional Temple No. 7 (Chief Monk Seongjin).

This event, organized as part of Gyeonggi-do's traditional culture specialization program, was held in an open space accessible to everyone.

The contest consisted of a special lecture by Professor Emeritus Kim Young-sung from the Department of Food and Nutrition at Shinhan University and an exhibition of temple food prepared by citizens.

The 10 participating teams prepared dishes cooked in appropriate temple food methods, avoiding the use of alliums (green onions, garlic, chives, onions, wild chives), meat, fish, and animal products, receiving positive responses. Awards such as the Beopbosang and Jeongjinsang were given based on evaluations by experts.

Chief Monk Seongjin expressed, "Thank you to everyone who participated in the first-ever temple food contest held in Uijeongbu," and added, "We will continue to strive to develop this into a distinctive event unique to Uijeongbu and Hoeryongsa."

Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, "This was a meaningful time that laid the foundation for popularizing Uijeongbu temple food," and said, "We will support more citizens in experiencing the charm of traditional culture and help Hoeryongsa establish itself as the center of temple food in northern Gyeonggi Province."
