Lee Jae-myung: "By-elections are the second judgment on the administration... Now we must prepare for regime change"

"The President Has No Right to Fast If He Only Thinks About 'How to Kill That Guy'"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appealed on the 3rd for support of Democratic Party candidates in the upcoming by-elections for local government heads to be held on the 16th of this month, stating, "If the general election was the first judgment, this by-election should be the second judgment on the administration."

While campaigning in support of Jang Se-il, candidate for Yeonggwang County Governor in Jeollanam-do, Lee said, "If the president and members of the National Assembly only think about 'how to kill that guy' or 'how to fill my own belly' with the power given to them, aren't they unqualified as public servants for the people?"

Lee emphasized, "Even after receiving a judgment of an overwhelming majority victory for the opposition party in the last general election, the ruling party has not come to its senses but has become worse than before," adding, "I deeply feel how much a ruthless administration can ruin the country. Now is the time to judge and prepare for a change of government."

He said, "Even if you are not fully satisfied with the Democratic Party, the party is changing. Although we cannot completely shake off the old ways within us at once, we are trying to change," and urged, "For the greater good and to not disrupt the ranks for government change, please support the Democratic Party."

Lee also expressed strong support for Jang's pledge of "an annual basic income of 1 million won in local currency for rural residents," saying, "This is also my political conviction and one of the Democratic Party's principles and policies," and added, "I believe Jang candidate will do well."
