Smartphone Drone Delivery at 3 Locations in Jeju Island Starting from the 2nd
Delivery Time Reduced from 7 Days to 2-3 Days
LG Uplus announced on the 3rd that it will implement the 'Smartphone Drone Delivery' service, the first of its kind among telecom companies, using drones to deliver smartphones to island areas.

LG Uplus has partnered with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Narma, and Quaternion to launch the smartphone drone delivery service from the previous day to three island areas in Jeju Island: Gapado, Biyangdo, and Marado. When consumers purchase smartphones from the official online mall 'Uplus.com,' LG Uplus uses drones from the 'Drone Delivery Hub' established in Jeju to deliver to local delivery points on the islands. Consumers can pick up their smartphones at these local delivery points.
Unlike ships that typically cease operations around 4 PM, drone delivery is not restricted by time. Using drones reduces the delivery period to island areas from about 7 days to 2-3 days and also lessens the inconvenience for island consumers who otherwise would have to visit stores in person.
LG Uplus's smartphone drone delivery service is provided through the 'K-Drone Delivery' service jointly operated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Jeju Province. K-Drone Delivery is a service where the Ministry and 14 local governments selected for the 'Drone Demonstration City Construction Project' collaborate to deliver daily necessities to islands, parks, and other locations using drones.
LG Uplus plans to enable orders through Jeju's public delivery application 'Meokkebi' as well. Starting with Jeju, the company is also considering expanding delivery to 32 island areas, 17 park areas, and 1 port area across 5 local governments currently offering K-Drone Delivery services.
Jae-won Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of MX/Digital Innovation Group at LG Uplus, said, "Drone delivery is a newly attempted service to provide faster and more convenient delivery experiences to consumers in island areas. We plan to continue creating differentiated customer value that enhances convenience for consumers who choose LG Uplus."
Meanwhile, LG Uplus operates services such as 'Same-Day Arrival,' which allows customers to receive smartphones on the day of order; 'Morning Delivery,' which delivers on the morning of pre-activation when pre-ordering; and 'Now Delivery,' which delivers the U+ Altteul Phone shared USIM 'One Chip' within 2 hours.
