Pohang City Holds 28th Senior Citizens Day Ceremony... Commends and Encourages 30 Outstanding Contributors

Over 1,000 Attendees, 30 People Including Exemplary Seniors and Senior Welfare Contributors Receive Awards

Various Events Including Senior Job Promotion, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Checks, and Dementia Management

Pohang City held the '28th Senior Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony' at the Pohang Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater on the 2nd.


This event, organized by the Pohang Local Youth Association, was prepared to foster a social atmosphere of gratitude for the elderly who have played a pivotal role in the development of the local community. Over 1,000 local seniors attended, along with key officials and organization leaders.


During the ceremony, awards were presented to 30 individuals, including exemplary seniors who practice good deeds in their daily lives despite their advanced age, and contributors to senior welfare who have dedicated themselves to supporting the elderly under challenging circumstances.

Pohang City Holds 28th Senior Citizens Day Ceremony... Commends and Encourages 30 Outstanding Contributors Guests attending the 28th Senior Citizens' Day ceremony are performing a deep bow to the elderly, expressing respect and gratitude.

Prior to the main event, a lively pre-ceremony performance was held by the Women's Housewives Band. During the main ceremony, guests expressed their respect and gratitude to the seniors by performing a deep traditional bow, wishing them longevity and good health.


Side events included senior job promotion activities by the Pohang Senior Club, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, and dementia management by the Nam-gu Health Center's Hypertension and Diabetes Registration Education Center and Dementia Safety Center, as well as elder abuse prevention campaigns by the Gyeongbuk Eastern Senior Protection Agency.


Oh Muhwan, president of the Pohang Local Youth Association, said, "I am grateful to be able to express our respect and appreciation to the seniors through this event," and added, "We will continue to enhance the value of honoring and respecting elders through various activities for the seniors in our community."


Lee Kangdeok, mayor of Pohang, stated, "Thanks to the dedication of our seniors to the community, Pohang has achieved its current level of development," and continued, "We will strive to make Pohang a better place to live, where seniors are respected and can enjoy a healthy and vibrant daily life in a safe environment."


Every year, October 2 is designated as 'Senior Citizens' Day,' and Pohang City holds a commemorative ceremony during Senior Citizens' Month each October to reflect on its significance.
