"Is This Really Your Hair?"... Hollywood Actor Touching Jennie's Blonde Hair Sparks Racism Controversy

Fashion Show Captures Margaret Qualley and Jennie Greeting Scene
Qualley's Comment on 'Jennie Blonde' Sparks "Rudeness" Controversy

Hollywood actress Margaret Qualley (30) sparked controversy for making a racially insensitive remark to BLACKPINK's Jennie (28) at the Chanel fashion show.

Jennie attended Chanel's fashion show held in Paris, France, on the 1st (local time) as an official ambassador. Wearing Chanel's sky-blue knit and shorts, Jennie caught attention with a surprising transformation, having dyed her hair blonde after departing from Incheon Airport the previous day with her natural black hair.

Jennie greeted global stars attending the fashion show and took photos with Qualley as well.

However, a video released on social media caused controversy. After a light hug greeting, Qualley touched Jennie's hair and asked, "Is this really your hair?"

When Jennie replied, "No," Qualley admired, "It looks real."

Some netizens criticized Qualley's behavior as inappropriate. Suddenly touching someone else's hair without permission was considered rude, and commenting on Jennie's blonde hair as an East Asian was pointed out as racially insensitive.

Qualley has appeared in films such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Death Note, and My New York Diary, and is active as a muse for Chanel.

In a similar case, global pop star Beyonc? revealed her blonde hairstyle last November and faced malicious comments claiming she was "trying to become white by whitening her skin and dyeing her hair blonde."

In response, Beyonc?'s mother, Tina Knowles, criticized on social media, saying, "The statement that she dyes her hair blonde to become white is a foolish and ignorant form of racism," adding, "Many talented and famous Black celebrities have dyed their hair blonde at least once; are they trying to become white?"
