On the morning of the 4th at 10 a.m., the city of Busan will hold the '45th Busan Citizens’ Day Commemoration Ceremony' at the main auditorium of City Hall.

At this ceremony, over 700 people including Mayor Park Hyungjoon, key institutional leaders, civic groups, members of the Busan Great Victory Memorial Association, and Busan citizens will gather to celebrate the 432nd anniversary of the victory at the Busanpo Naval Battle and reaffirm Busan’s commitment to becoming a ‘Global Hub City’.

The ceremony will proceed in the following order: ▲National Salute ▲Commemorative Video Screening ▲Recitation of the Busan Citizens’ Charter ▲Awarding of the Proud Citizen Award ▲Commemorative Speech by Mayor Park Hyungjoon ▲Congratulatory Remarks by the Chairperson of the Busan City Council and other guests ▲Commemorative Performances ▲Singing of the Busan Anthem.

Prior to the ceremony, at 9 a.m., Mayor Park, the City Council Chairperson, and about 30 others will visit Chungnyeolsa Shrine to pay tribute to the patriotic martyrs who sacrificed for the nation.

This year marks the 40th 'Proud Citizen Award', an honorable award given to Busan citizens who have made significant contributions to the development of the local community and the creation of a happy society. A total of seven recipients have been selected and will be honored on this day.

The awardees are as follows: ▲Grand Prize, Hyun Seunghoon, Chairman of Hwaseung ▲Main Prize, Park Sooyong, President of the Korea Palgakhoe (Local Love category), Lee Moonjong, CEO of Sunwoo Barbershop (Volunteer category), Yoo Serim, Employee at ElecPower (Sacrifice category) ▲Encouragement Prize, Song Seung, Volunteer (Volunteer category), Yoon Kyungsook, CEO of Madangjip (Volunteer category), Son Donghwan, Manager at Housing Management Corporation (Sacrifice category).

Notably, this year’s ceremony will feature a commemorative performance by the Busan City Choir based on the theme of the ‘Busanpo Naval Battle’ and a performance by the youth dance team ‘H’ representing Busan’s global aspirations.

To commemorate the 432nd anniversary of the victory at the Busanpo Naval Battle, which laid the foundation for a major counterattack during the Imjin War, the Busan City Choir will perform ‘Great Counterattack, Busan’ to honor the noble spirit of resistance of the patriotic martyrs, followed by a hip-hop dance performance by the youth dance team ‘H’ showcasing the strength of Busan’s youth as the city rises as a ‘Global Hub City’.

To carry on the noble spirit of resistance of the forefathers and revive it today, the city has designated October 5th as 'Busan Citizens’ Day' (established in 1980), which is the solar calendar equivalent of September 1, 1592, when Admiral Yi Sunshin achieved a great victory at the Busanpo Naval Battle.

In his commemorative address, Mayor Park Hyungjoon will celebrate Citizens’ Day and extend his congratulations and gratitude to the recipients of the Proud Citizen Award, stating, “A new wave of change and hope is sweeping through Busan. By joining hands warmly with all citizens, we will complete ‘Global Hub City Busan’, a city where you would want to live even if you were born again.”
