Resident-Led Unique 'Village Culture Festival' Held 5 Times from October to November... Promoting Community Harmony
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) will hold village festivals filled with various attractions and activities from October to November, allowing residents to enjoy cultural life close to home in celebration of autumn.
First, on the 18th from 2 PM to 8 PM, the ‘Daehak-dong Nokdu S Valley Road Festival’ will be held around Hoam-ro 22-gil in Daehak-dong.
The ‘Daehak-dong Nokdu S Valley Road Festival’ is part of the public-private cooperative project 'Resident UP Network UP Network Operation Formation' and is significant as it is jointly planned by the private sector and administration to revitalize the sustainable local commercial district and community of Daehak-dong Nokdu Street.
This village festival is the first to be held since the formation of the ‘Nokdu S Valley Merchants Association’ last August, where residents and merchants united to restore the former reputation of Daehak-dong Nokdu Street and revitalize local culture.
The festival is primarily designed to activate the alley economy and share the culture of Nokdu Street.
The festival program includes various contents that promote Nokdu Street culture, such as ▲Nokdu Exhibition ▲Nokdu Radio ▲Nokdu Karaoke ▲Experience Booths (Anabada Market).
The ‘Nokdu Exhibition Zone’ displays photos and items representing the past, present, and future of Nokdu Street, providing residents with an indirect experience of the street’s history and hopes. A photo zone is also set up.
‘Nokdu Radio’ is a segment that communicates with residents near Nokdu Street and introduces the area's history and stories.
At ‘Nokdu Karaoke,’ any resident can participate and showcase their talents. Additionally, in the Nokdu Culture Zone, local street performance teams will present various shows such as ▲Gala Show ▲Magic Performances, offering residents diverse sights and entertainment.
At the ‘Experience Booths,’ a variety of activities are prepared for residents, including ▲Lucky Roulette Spin ▲CPR Education ▲Workshop Experiences ▲Zero Waste Exhibitions and Experiences.
Notably, this event is an eco-friendly festival aiming to establish a culture free of disposable products and waste by encouraging residents’ participation.
On one side of the festival site, the ‘Flower Middle-aged Table Tennis and Billiards Tournament,’ proposed through resident participation budgeting to support the health and social network formation of middle-aged single-person households, will also be held.
The district expects this festival to be an opportunity for residents to newly experience their neighborhood commercial district, create joyful memories, and for Nokdu Street to be reborn as a vibrant cultural street.
Also, the ‘Village Culture Festival,’ a resident-led festival planned and operated by local artists, civic groups, and residents that highlights the unique character of each village, will be held in five locations within the district.
On the 6th, the ‘Spreading a Mat in the Yard’ festival will be held at the Starlit Naerincheon (Dorimcheon) Riverside Stage.
Along with performances of instruments like the saxophone, which are usually hard to experience, cultural performances and talent shows open to all residents will be held. Various experience booths where people of all ages can enjoy together will also be operated.
On the 26th, the ‘8th Sinsa Harmony Festival’ will be held around Sinsa-ro 20-gil in Gwanak-gu.
Organized by the Sinsa-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee, the event will feature contests open to all residents, promotional booths for Sinsa Market, and various experience booths including promotion of the nearby Haeoreum Small Library.
From the 26th to November 17th, the ‘4th Arts Goshichon Local Festival’ will be held at Daehak-dong Gwangtae Small Theater and the Goshichon area.
This event aims to be the only festival in Gwanak-gu that all generations can enjoy together, expanding cultural enjoyment opportunities for local residents and providing chances for young people living in Daehak-dong youth housing to mingle with the community.
Additionally, on November 2nd, the ‘Self-care, Mutual Care, Our Village Health Festival Caring for the Community’ will be held around Sinlim 2-gyo.
Various health-related programs will be prepared to increase residents’ interest in health and encourage practical action, aiming for prevention in daily life by linking residents who have difficulty managing their health alone with village resources.
On the same day, the ‘2024 Artist Village Arts Festival’ will be held at Yechon Children’s Park in Namhyeon-dong.
Reflecting the characteristics of Namhyeon-dong, where many artists reside, the festival aims to promote harmony among local residents and enhance regional identity. After the festival, art classes in collaboration with local businesses will be offered to make art activities more accessible and enjoyable within the community.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “The festival is a place for residents’ unity, strengthening regional identity, and an opportunity to revitalize the local commercial district. With various festivals prepared for residents to enjoy everyday life this autumn, we ask for your great interest and participation.”
