Park Seok-il, Chief Prosecutor of the Investigation Division 3 at the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (age 54, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 34), has reportedly submitted his resignation after about one year, confirmed on the 2nd.
The authority to appoint or dismiss prosecutors at the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit lies with the President. It is expected to take some time before Chief Prosecutor Park's resignation is accepted. The exact reason for his resignation has not been disclosed. The Investigation Division 3 is currently investigating allegations that Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, operated a so-called comment team during his tenure as Minister of Justice.
With Chief Prosecutor Park's resignation, two of the four chief prosecutor positions in the investigation divisions have become vacant. The Investigation Division 1 has been undergoing a replacement process since the retirement of former Chief Prosecutor Kim Seon-gyu in May.
