Connection of Local Road 387 and National Road 45... Establishing North-South Road Network in Eastern Namyangju
Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, is delivering a commemorative speech at the full opening ceremony of 'City Road No. 8' connecting Hwado and Joan. Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) will complete and open the construction of City Road No. 8, which connects Chasan-ri in Hwado-eup and Sambong-ri in Joan-myeon, at 2 p.m. on the 3rd.
The city held an opening ceremony on the 2nd in front of the Jaejaegi Tunnel in Hwado-eup. About 200 people, including Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju, Jo Seong-dae, Chairman of the Namyangju City Council, local members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, and local residents, attended the event to celebrate the opening of the route.
City Road No. 8 began its basic design in 1995, started detailed design in 2001, and sections of 2.2 km in Chasan-ri and 2.3 km in Sambong-ri were opened in 2007 and 2011, respectively.
The city invested a total project cost of 38 billion KRW to open the last remaining 2.1 km section connecting Hwado and Joan, which began construction in June 2021.
City Road No. 8 will connect Local Road No. 387 and National Road No. 45, establishing a north-south road network in the eastern area of Namyangju.
Until now, residents traveling between Hwado-eup and Joan-myeon experienced inconvenience as there was no direct road connecting the two areas, forcing them to use National Roads 45 and 46 or detour over 15 km via City Road No. 10 at Siuri Pass.
With this opening, travel time from Joan-myeon to Hwado-eup is expected to be reduced by more than 20 minutes on average.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “The opening of City Road No. 8 is not just a simple transportation improvement connecting Hwado-eup and Joan-myeon, but will play a significant role in making Hwado and Joan a single living area. We will create a Namyangju beyond imagination through super growth so that citizens can take pride in Namyangju.”
Meanwhile, the city plans to complete and open the following road projects next month: Rural Road No. 102 connecting Changhyeon-ri and Chasan-ri in Hwado, the access road construction to the Chasan-ri Reserve Forces Training Center, the access road construction to Nokchon-ri, and the road expansion project in Gagok-ri.
