Chinese Foreign Ministry "Continuous Ceasefire Must Be Achieved"
Russian Kremlin "Worrisome Scenario Unfolding"
On the 2nd, China urged the major powers to "prevent the situation in the Middle East from worsening further." Russia also expressed concern that the situation in the Middle East is developing in a worrisome direction and called on "all parties to exercise restraint."
In a statement posted on its website under the name of a spokesperson on the same day, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "China urges the international community, especially the major influential powers, to play a truly constructive role and prevent the situation from deteriorating further."
It added, "The failure to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is the fundamental cause of the tension," and "All parties should achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible."
According to TASS news agency, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, evaluated the Middle East situation during a briefing on the same day as "developing according to the most worrisome scenario."
He continued, "Considering what is happening, we call on all parties to exercise restraint," and "Of course, we condemn any actions that cause civilian deaths."
When asked whether Russia would support Iran if it fully clashes with Israel, Peskov replied, "We have communicated with all parties involved in this conflict and continue to maintain such contacts, urging all sides to exercise restraint."
Russia is closely connected with Iran in various aspects, but Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are known to have a close relationship. Israel does not cooperate with the West's sanctions against Russia, and Russia somewhat tolerates Israel's airstrikes on Syria, with which it has friendly relations.
