'Seoul Subway' Special Exhibition Pop-up Store Opens in Seongsu from October 4 to 6
Experience Nostalgia from 50 Years Ago... Participate in Event Missions to Receive 3 Special Exhibition Limited Edition Transportation Card Prizes
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) and the Seoul Museum of History will jointly operate a special pop-up store for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul subway, titled "Seoul's Subway," for three days from the 4th to the 6th near Seongsu Station.
The operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The "Seoul's Subway" pop-up store can be found at the cafe ‘RANI COFFEE’ near Seongsu Station (14, Yeonmujang 5ga-gil, Seongdong-gu, 1st floor).
The Metro and the Museum have been holding the "Seoul's Subway" special exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Seoul subway opening since August 9th at the first-floor special exhibition hall of the Seoul Museum of History.
This pop-up store event was prepared by the Metro and the Museum to promote the "Seoul's Subway" special exhibition to citizens in Seongsu, which is emerging as a new center of Seoul, while sharing memories related to the subway.
The "Seoul's Subway" special exhibition, divided into three parts ("Train Running Underground," "Seoul on the Rails," and "I Take the Subway Today as Well"), vividly captures not only the history from the initial construction to the opening of the Seoul subway but also the changes in Seoul’s lifestyle brought about by the subway. The exhibition runs until November 3rd.
This pop-up store is themed around the 50th anniversary special exhibition "Seoul's Subway" and is designed to evoke nostalgia from 50 years ago. Using the Seoul city character ‘Haechi and Friends’ and the Metro’s ‘Ttota’ character, the design offers a trendy feel while incorporating old magazine designs and newspaper stand styles to capture the atmosphere of that era.
The Metro and the Museum have prepared events to make the visit to the pop-up store more enjoyable for citizens. First, visitors can take a ‘Life Four-Cut’ photo, post the pop-up store certification photo on Instagram, and solve a simple quiz on-site to participate in the event. Citizens who participate in the event will be entered into a draw to receive one of three limited-edition souvenirs inspired by the "Seoul's Subway" special exhibition.
The limited-edition goods for the "Seoul's Subway" special exhibition, produced by the Seoul Museum of History, include a limited-edition transportation card numbered from 1 to 100, stickers to decorate the transportation card, and masking tape featuring train designs from lines 1 to 9.
Items available for sale at the pop-up store include Ttota acrylic stands, Line 2 file holders, past Metro CI keyrings, and Ttota dolls.
In particular, the acrylic stand, designed with the Seongsu Station exit pole sign and the Metro character ‘Ttota,’ is a product being introduced for the first time at this pop-up store.
Additionally, visitors will have a chance to win ‘Ttota pens’ and two types of ‘Seoul Subway 50th Anniversary Special Transportation Cards’ produced by the Metro through a draw. The giveaway event may end early if the daily supply of souvenirs is exhausted.
Park Sang-bin, Head of Curatorial Research at the Seoul Museum of History, said, “We are grateful for the great interest from many citizens in the 'Seoul's Subway' special exhibition that captures Seoul’s past and present,” and added, “We hope that through this pop-up store, even more citizens will recall their memories related to the subway and take an interest in the 'Seoul's Subway' special exhibition.”
Jung Jong-yeop, Head of Public Relations at Seoul Metro, said, “To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Seoul subway opening this year, we prepared this event so that families and friends can share memories related to the subway and enjoy a pleasant experience on weekends,” and added, “We ask for continued interest not only in this event but also in the 'Seoul's Subway' special exhibition running until November 3rd.”
