The Presidential Office criticized on the 2nd the formation of the 'Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment Preparation Lawmakers' Alliance' by some opposition party members and the Democratic Party's push for the so-called 'law distortion crime' legislation as "a shield for Lee Jae-myung."

A Presidential Office official said in a meeting with reporters at the Yongsan Presidential Office that day, "Opposition lawmakers are holding an impeachment concert and activating the presidential impeachment preparation lawmakers' alliance. In my view, it is not an impeachment concert but a bulletproof concert, and not a presidential impeachment preparation lawmakers' alliance but a bulletproof preparation lawmakers' alliance."

The official pointed out, "Not only do they plan to summon prosecutors and judges investigating opposition figures for hearings and impeachments, but they are also moving to impeach the president, the protector of the constitution," adding, "I want to ask whether impeaching prosecutors and judges to block the investigation of the party leader is truly the image of a legitimate political party."

He continued, "The people did not create a majority party for the purpose of shielding the party leader," and criticized, "No matter how much fake news and conspiracy theories are spread to stir up an impeachment wave, it does not erase the opposition lawmakers' own charges."

The Presidential Office official also criticized the Democratic Party's proposed 'law distortion crime' as "a magistrate's trial solely to shield Lee Jae-myung."

The official said, "The bill punishes prosecutors who distort the law in its application, but who judges what constitutes distortion?" and added, "This distortion crime proposed by the Democratic Party is an unconstitutional idea that intimidates the prosecution and abuses legislative power to shield Lee Jae-myung by leveraging the power of the majority party."

He concluded, "I hope the opposition quickly escapes the swamp of impeachment addiction and properly stands on the land of the Republic of Korea's constitution and liberal democracy."

The Presidential Office stated regarding the release of a recording in which former Senior Administrative Officer of the Presidential Office Kim Dae-nam (currently a full-time auditor at SGI Seoul Guarantee) requested a report attacking then-candidate Han Dong-hoon ahead of the People Power Party's July 23 party convention, that "(the recording) is understood to be a one-sided claim."

According to the recording released earlier by the YouTube channel 'Seoul Voice,' former Senior Administrative Officer Kim said in a call with Seoul Voice, "First Lady Kim Keon-hee is trying to die because of candidate Han Dong-hoon," and "If we plan well and strike (candidate Han), the First Lady will be pleased."

A Presidential Office official explained, "Kim himself admitted that his remarks were absurd and reckless," and "As Kim himself said, the series of claims are exaggerated."

He added, "Kim is a working-level administrative officer who has no contact with the First Lady, as he stated, and these remarks were made after he left the Presidential Office in October last year."

Regarding the calls within the People Power Party's pro-Han Dong-hoon faction for First Lady Kim to apologize for a series of suspicions, the official said, "We are listening to various opinions."

The official also stated there is "no particular position" on the prosecution's decision to clear First Lady Kim, who was suspected of receiving luxury bags and other items.
