Uijeongbu-si Wins Grand Prize for Gyeonggi-do Data Policy Best Practice Uijeongbu City won the Grand Prize at the '2024 Gyeonggi-do Data Policy Best Practice Presentation Contest' hosted by Gyeonggi-do.

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 2nd that it received the Grand Prize at the ‘2024 Gyeonggi-do Data Policy Best Practice Presentation Contest’ hosted by Gyeonggi Province.

The city has been honored with awards for three consecutive years, having won Encouragement Awards in 2022 and 2023.

This contest is held annually by Gyeonggi Province to share best practices in data analysis and openness among 31 cities and counties within the province, and to exchange information between institutions to promote data policies.

The city received the Grand Prize by presenting the ‘Big Data Analysis Results for Establishing New Bus Routes for Long-distance Commuting Students.’

This analysis was utilized for the city’s ‘Uijeongbu Student Commuter Bus Project.’ It analyzed the public transportation usage of students living in the Songsan area commuting to schools in the Heungseon district, deriving six optimal bus routes to minimize travel time and maximize student usage.

In particular, the Smart City Division’s Big Data Team has conducted a total of 47 big data analyses since 2017, including analyses of youth general status, and last year obtained certification as a leading institution for data talent development. Through this, the city has been selected as an excellent institution in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s data-based administrative evaluation for two consecutive years since 2022, thereby implementing data-driven administration.

Ryu Yun-mi, head of the Smart City Division, said, “Based on this analysis, we were able to support safe and convenient transportation for long-distance commuting students. We will continue to listen to citizens’ needs through data-driven smart administration and strive to make scientific policy decisions.”
