On the 3rd, when the official election campaign for the October 16 Seoul Superintendent of Education by-election begins, candidates for Seoul Superintendent of Education will start campaigning across various locations in Seoul.
Candidate Jo Jeon-hyeok will visit Seoi Elementary School located in Seocho-gu, Seoul, after paying respects at the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery at 8 a.m. on the 3rd. Jo previously stated that if elected as superintendent, he would abolish the Student Human Rights Ordinance and establish a new ordinance outlining students' duties and responsibilities. He is scheduled to give a campaign speech around Gwanghwamun, Seoul, at 10 a.m.
Candidate Jeong Geun-sik will begin his first campaign speech in front of Independence Gate Park on the same day. Jeong, a sociology professor and researcher, has emphasized the necessity of history education in Seoul’s education system since announcing his candidacy. He plans to conduct street campaigning near Sangsangmadang by Hongdae Entrance Station, an area densely populated by young people.
Candidate Choi Bo-seon will hold a launch event and announce his special education school pledges at the Korean Woojin School in Mapo-gu at 8 a.m. His pledge includes establishing special classes in elementary, middle, and high schools across Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts and deploying integrated education support teachers. Afterwards, he plans to campaign on the streets from Bulgwang Station through Hongdae Entrance Station to Sillim Station.
Candidate Yoon Ho-sang will also hold a launch event at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul at 7 a.m. and then campaign. He will tour Gwangjin-gu’s Konkuk University Entrance, Guui Station, Sejong University, and in the afternoon, visit Tapgol Park in Jongno-gu and Nowon-gu.
According to the Seoul Election Commission, from midnight on the 3rd until midnight on the 15th, each candidate is allowed to conduct full-scale election campaigns.
