Woorinet Issues Security Function Verification Certificate for Quantum Communication Encryption Device 'QENC'

Woorinet announced on the 2nd that its QENC (Quantum Communication Encryption Equipment), equipped with a KCMVP (Korea Cryptographic Module Validation Program) certified module, has received the security function confirmation certificate from TTA (Telecommunications Technology Association) for the first time in Korea.

The target equipment includes the OPN-3100 (2.4T class) and OPN-1000 (560G class), tera-level POTN commercialized nationwide transmission networks. Based on the international public standard MPLS-TP (Multiprotocol Label Switching - Transport Profile) technology, it provides interfaces such as 100G/10G capable of supporting All-IP services. This communication technology bundles various data into packets for transmission, enabling active response within the equipment to traffic fluctuations without physical configuration changes.

Since 2020, the government has been promoting the Digital New Deal project until 2025, establishing a quantum cryptographic communication infrastructure to build a pilot network with excellent security for public sectors where security is critical, as well as private sectors requiring protection of personal information and industrial secrets. Woorinet has secured references for industrial activation by collaborating with security authorities to verify security and safety and by discovering and applying application services.

The Quantum Key Distribution device (QKD), configured to interoperate with Woorinet’s QENC (Quantum Communication Encryption Equipment), uses advanced technology communication equipment that dramatically enhances the security of data transmitted through communication channels by safely distributing secret keys (symmetric random numbers) used for data encryption through principles of quantum mechanics such as the superposition state of quantum states, no cloning of quantum states, and quantum state collapse upon measurement. It is theoretically known as a perfectly secure communication method that is impossible to hack.

A Woorinet official stated, “By receiving the security function confirmation certificate for quantum communication encryption equipment for the first time in Korea, we have proven our leading quantum cryptographic communication technology. Based on the quantum security solutions developed and secured in-house, including Woorinet QENC, QKD, QKMS, and PQC, we plan to expand national and public sector communication networks through collaboration with telecom companies and public institutions.”

He added, “We are also strategically establishing a plan to enter the global transmission security market based on the international standard AES encryption, responding proactively to the AES cryptographic module implementation approved by the National Cyber Security Center in September, targeting both the domestic public sector and international markets.”
