Kim Aran, a third-year student at Dongnae Horticultural High School, wins gold in Plant Resources Category
1 silver and 3 bronze for 1st and 2nd years, prospects for next year's competition bright
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 2nd that it achieved remarkable results at the '53rd National Young Farmers Festival,' held over three days from the 25th of last month at Dongnae Horticultural High School and other venues, winning one gold medal, one silver medal, and four bronze medals.
The 'National Young Farmers Festival,' held under the theme 'Smarter Agriculture, Blossoming Flowers,' is a competition designed to discover progressive models for the development of agriculture and secondary agricultural education in Korea.
To continuously develop career paths for students at agricultural high schools nationwide, the event is held annually in different regions. This year's competition featured 21 categories, including plant resources, with participation from over 1,800 students from 72 agricultural high schools across the country.
From Busan, 31 students from Dongnae Horticultural High School competed in 14 categories, including 'Food Processing,' while four students from Seyeon High School participated in three categories, including 'Pet Grooming.'
Dongnae Horticultural High School, the only agricultural high school in Busan, won one gold medal, one silver medal, and three bronze medals.
In the 'Plant Resources' category, Kim Aran (third year) won the gold medal; in the 'Food Processing' category, Heo Yunseong (first year) won the silver medal; and Jang Hyebin (third year), Jeong Dayeong (second year), Je Bo-gyeong, and Jeong Yunseo (second year) each received bronze medals.
Choi Junhyeok (second year) from Seyeon High School won a bronze medal in the 'Pet Grooming' category. With first- and second-year students achieving excellent results at this year's competition, expectations are high for next year's event as well.
Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "I am proud not only of the students who achieved outstanding results at this competition but also of all the participants," adding, "The Office of Education will do its utmost to establish an excellent educational environment through the reorganization of vocational high schools and to nurture smart young farmers who will lead the future agro-bio industry."
