80MW Scale Fuel Cell Power Plant
Establishing a Cumulative 140MW Power Generation Facility in Chungbuk
SK Eteonics announced on the 30th that it has signed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the high-efficiency solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power plants at Chungju and Daesowon Ecoparks.
SK Eteonics, in consortium with SK Ecoplant, is undertaking the construction of Chungju Ecopark (with a capacity of 40MW) and Daesowon Ecopark (40MW). The total construction cost is 455.8 billion KRW, with SK Eteonics’ share amounting to approximately 378.3 billion KRW (83%).
Chungju and Daesowon Ecoparks are high-efficiency SOFC power plants developed and operated through joint investment by SK Eteonics, Cham Bit Group, and financial investors via a Special Purpose Company (SPC). SK Eteonics is responsible for supplying the main equipment, design, permits, and overall project management, while SK Ecoplant handles completion and commissioning. The main equipment manufacturer, Bloom Energy from the United States, will manage operation and maintenance (O&M), and Cham Bit Chungbuk City Gas will supply the fuel.
Located in Daesowon-myeon, Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungju Ecopark aims for commercial operation by December 2025. The total construction scale is approximately 227.7 billion KRW, with SK Eteonics’ share about 189.1 billion KRW (83%). Daesowon Ecopark, situated near Chungju Ecopark, targets operation by March 2026. Its total construction scale is about 228.1 billion KRW, with SK Eteonics’ share also approximately 189.1 billion KRW (83%).
SK Eteonics currently operates fuel cell power plants totaling 40MW in the Chungbuk region, including Cheongju Ecopark (20MW) and Eumseong Ecopark (20MW). Upon completion of the ongoing Boeun Fuel Cell (20MW) project and the Chungju and Daesowon Ecoparks, SK Eteonics will operate fuel cell power plants with a total capacity of 140MW in the Chungbuk area alone.
Additionally, SK Eteonics has secured development rights for fuel cell projects totaling 400MW in Paju (31MW), Asan (20MW), and other locations, and has been selected as the preferred negotiator for three projects (28MW) in this year’s general hydrogen bidding market.
Kim Haejung, CEO of SK Eteonics, stated, "As a leading domestic renewable energy company, we will continue to contribute to increasing energy self-sufficiency through the expansion of distributed power sources and to the growth of regional win-win fuel cell projects."
