'Heukbaek Chef' Final 8 Finally Revealed
In the globally popular Netflix original variety show "Heukbaek Chef," Baek Jong-won revealed the moment he broke into a sweat after removing his blindfold following the "blindfolded judging." Recently, a video released on Baek Jong-won's YouTube channel featured 50-year Chinese cuisine master Chef Yeo Kyung-rae as a guest. Chef Yeo joined the famous chef group Baek Sujeo on "Heukbaek Chef" and competed against the "Heuk Sujeo Chef."

When Baek Jong-won asked, "You are truly at the top of the Chinese cuisine world in our country, so what made you decide to appear on 'Heukbaek Chef'?" Chef Yeo replied, "When the producers approached me, I thought that whether I won or lost, it would be a loss," indicating he did not accept immediately. He continued, "After thinking it over, I thought it would be fun," adding, "I felt that by participating, I could motivate my juniors, and since I have been dedicated to nurturing the next generation, I accepted." He then humorously added, "I let my guard down and got knocked out in one shot."
In episode 5 of "Heukbaek Chef," Chef Yeo Kyung-rae of the "Baek Sujeo" team competed against the "Heuk Sujeo" challenger, a Cheolgabang chef, using oxtail as the ingredient, but lost in the blind test. Baek Jong-won recalled the judging moment, saying, "Just having Chef Yeo appear was a huge influence. It gave the program a lot of weight. I actually said, 'Am I really going to judge Chef Yeo's food? This is difficult,' and the producers said, 'We have everything prepared,' and then put a blindfold on me."
He explained, "The reason for the blindfold was not just for fun, but because the chefs are so skilled that the competition might not be decided otherwise. Covering the eyes of the taster means relying only on smell and taste, which is a huge disadvantage for the creator," and added with laughter, "When I took off the blindfold, I thought, 'Oh no, I'm screwed.'" Chef Yeo laughed and said, "I didn't know either. I wondered why that man was blindfolded." He continued, "I have also been a judge for decades and watched every move of the judges carefully. I thought it was a good opportunity for me to improve," and expressed his gratitude to Baek Jong-won.
