Completion of Flood-Prone Area Improvement Project at Gu-eupcheon, Pocheon-si... Flood Prevention Expected After the improvement project of the flood-prone area at Gu-eupcheon, Pocheon City.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that it has completed the improvement project for the flood-prone area of Gu-eupcheon Stream, being carried out in the area from Gu-eup-ri to Jikdu-ri, Gunnae-myeon, Pocheon City.

Gu-eupcheon Stream in Pocheon City is a river where embankment collapse caused flooding of houses, leaving local residents with damage and anxiety during heavy rainfall.

The flood-prone area improvement project is implemented for areas urgently needing flood damage prevention, aiming to raise embankments or widen waterways for flood control purposes. The province invested a total of 39.9 billion KRW in this Gu-eupcheon flood-prone area improvement project, which began in April 2018, and maintained a 5.9 km stretch of the river.

With the widened width of the existing river securing the cross-sectional flow area, Gu-eupcheon Stream was able to avoid flood damage even during this localized heavy rain.

The province created an eco-friendly river environment by applying environmental vegetation blocks and natural stone stacking for river protection and greening, allowing plants to grow naturally. Additionally, embankment roads, surrounding roads, and vehicle access roads were maintained to ensure residents can travel safely.

Kang Seong-seup, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, “We will actively focus on maintaining areas expected to suffer flood damage from summer typhoons and heavy rains, and do our best to prevent major damage caused by heavy rainfall.”
