Delivery of '100 Picture Books' to 12 Daycare Centers

Seocho-gu Operates 'Seocho Anywhere Library' Project to Read 100 Picture Books

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced that starting from the 1st, it will operate the ‘Seocho Anywhere Library’ project, which involves reading 100 picture books in children's daily lives.

‘Seocho Anywhere Library,’ newly operated this year by Seocho-gu and the Seocho-gu Banpo Library, visits daycare centers with picture books to conduct various activities that bring children closer to books, reading, and libraries, while delivering picture books every month.

In collaboration with 12 daycare centers in the area, the program supports customized activities that attract young children's interest and curiosity, including ▲providing themed picture books monthly ▲supporting open-style exhibition bookshelves to create a reading environment within daycare centers ▲playbook activities linked to picture books for post-reading activities ▲visiting storytelling libraries.

In particular, librarians select 10 themes linked to the early childhood formal education curriculum and carefully choose a total of 100 picture books for each daycare center, considering recommended books from the National Library for Children and Young Adults and the Children's Book Research Association.

Additionally, playbooks supporting children's post-reading activities such as drawing scenes from the books, image coloring activities, and placing stickers upon completing reading are provided. Children who complete the 100 picture books reading project will receive a ‘Reward’ Super Leader badge to instill a sense of achievement and pride.

Children can also visit ‘Moya,’ a creative space operated within Banpo Library, to participate in linked hands-on making experiences, and those who come to the library will receive a library welcome kit.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “Through this ‘Seocho Anywhere Library,’ we will help children develop reading habits and create Seocho-gu as a city great for raising children with more diverse reading education projects.”
