‘Hit King’ Pete Rose, who played 3,562 games and recorded 4,256 hits over 24 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), has passed away at the age of 843.
On the 1st (Korean time), Rose’s former team, the Cincinnati Reds, announced on their official social media account that the Hit King had died. Rose holds the MLB all-time records for both games played and hits, but he was never inducted into the Hall of Fame and was permanently banned from the league. During his career, he was loved by fans for his intense desire to win but also faced much criticism.
In 1989, while managing the Cincinnati Reds, he was permanently banned from MLB for betting on games involving his own team. Rose applied for reinstatement several times but was denied. He served several months in prison for tax evasion and long denied allegations before admitting to betting on baseball in a 2004 book.
He once told the local media outlet Cincinnati Enquirer, "If I could live my life over, there is one thing I would change. I would definitely change my life and not bet on baseball. You would never hear stories about me being at a bar after work, hitting my wife, or fighting with fans. I was as kind as possible to everyone."
