"Six Sports Instructors Face Delayed Wages
Negligence by Staff Leads to Payment Issue"
It has been revealed that sports instructors affiliated with the Sports Association for the Disabled in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City did not receive their September wages on time.
According to Seo-gu Council member Kim Taejin (Progressive Party) on October 1, among the eight sports instructors at the Seo-gu Sports Association for the Disabled, the wages of six instructors-excluding the two who are affiliated with the city-were paid late, being deposited in the afternoon of the 26th, one day after the original payday of the 25th.
Their monthly salaries are funded by a budget consisting of 50% from a fund, 25% from the city, and 25% from the district. It was confirmed that this issue occurred because the official in charge at the Seo-gu Sports Association for the Disabled realized too late that the grant from the city was insufficient.
Kim Taejin stated, "If there was a shortage of grant funds, the staff in charge should have checked in advance and made efforts to prevent a wage payment issue from occurring." He further pointed out, "However, even after paying the wages late, they do not seem to recognize the seriousness of the matter."
He added, "Among the five autonomous districts in Gwangju, only the Seo-gu Sports Association for the Disabled experienced such an incident," and emphasized, "With a strict stance being maintained on wage arrears, public institutions must take special care to ensure that wage delays do not occur."
