Role in Developing Asia-Pacific Women's Golf
'Indonesia Hiddink' Coach Shin Tae-yong Appointed Ambassador
Plans to Expand to 8 Tournaments Including Thailand and Singapore
The Asia Golf Leaders Forum (AGLF) has established the "Asia Pacific Circuit (APAC Circuit)."
Shin Tae-yong, head coach of the Indonesia national football team (third from the left), will serve as the ambassador for the Indonesia Women's Open to be held in January next year.
On the 30th, AGLF announced, "Two APAC Circuit tournaments will be held next year: one in Indonesia in January and another in the Philippines in February." The Indonesia Women's Open (IWO) will take place from January 24 to 26 at the Damai Indah Golf Club BSD Course in Jakarta, Indonesia, featuring a 3-round stroke play format. The Philippines Ladies Masters will be held over three days starting February 13 at a golf course in Manila, Philippines. Both tournaments will offer a total prize fund of $300,000 (approximately 400 million KRW).
More than 100 elite golfers from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, and other countries will compete fiercely at the Indonesia Women's Open. The Philippines Ladies Masters is expected to feature 132 participants. Park Paul, Secretary General of AGLF, stated, "This tournament provides a stage to showcase the talents of players with great potential. We will further expand opportunities for female golfers at the international level." Song Chang-geun, Chairman of the Indonesia Women's Open Organizing Committee, said, "This is an important milestone for women's golf in the Asia Pacific region. We are pleased to provide a platform that can inspire the next generation of female golfers."
To promote the tournaments, Shin Tae-yong, head coach of the Indonesian national football team, has been appointed as the official ambassador. The Asia Pacific Circuit plans to develop as a tour for nurturing promising players in the Asia Pacific region through collaboration with AGLF member companies and related organizations from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, China, the Philippines, and others. AGLF will simultaneously operate the LAT Series, featuring top-level players, and the Asia Pacific Circuit, a player development tour. Using the Indonesia and Philippines tournaments as a foundation, AGLF aims to establish up to eight tournaments by 2028.
AGLF was founded in 2020 to promote the development of women's golf in the Asia Pacific region, with founding members including Heo Kwang-soo, former President of the Korea Golf Association and Chairman of Samyang International; Kim Sang-yeol, former KLPGA President; Kim Jung-tae, former Chairman of Hana Financial Group; and Park Eun-kwan, Chairman of the Simone Group. The organization was established to widely promote the excellence of Korean women's golf worldwide and to facilitate smooth communication among related golf organizations in the Asia Pacific region for balanced development.
