The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 30th that it will implement crowd dispersion measures and concentrate safety personnel during the '2024 Seoul Light Hangang Light Island Festival,' which opens on the 4th of next month and runs until the 13th around Yeouido Hangang Park.
On the same day in the morning, the city conducted a joint inspection of the Light Island Festival site and facilities with relevant departments and established crowd management and facility operation plans.
To ensure the safe and smooth movement of visitors at the event site, the city will change the safety fences from a straight shape to a streamlined form.
Also, on the day of the fireworks festival (the 5th), when a large crowd is expected, only four artworks will be operated on the west side of Mapo Bridge (Mulbit Square, Camping Site, Mulbit Stage Hangang) after the festival ends at 8:30 PM.
The plan is to naturally guide citizens who watched the fireworks to move toward the west side of Mapo Bridge to prevent crowd concentration at Yeouinaru Station. Moving to the west side of Mapo Bridge allows for dispersion to Gukhoeuisadang Station, Yeouido Station, and others.
Additionally, about 100 safety personnel will be concentrated around the media artworks. If crowds become dense, measures such as non-stop passing through Yeouinaru Station will be taken.
Furthermore, the city is promoting underground wiring work for the event power lines, structural design to prepare for medium-sized typhoons, and collaboration with related agencies.
Choi In-gyu, Seoul City Design Policy Officer, stated, "The Light Island Festival has been held at Seoraeseom last year and Yeouido this year, and will be held annually rotating through six islands in the future," adding, "We plan to make the Hangang River a world-class light festival venue."
