Professor Jeong Seokchan and Graduate Student Lee Sujeong from Dong-Eui University Selected as Outstanding Achievers in Busan This Year

Jeong Seokchan, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center at Dong-Eui University, and Lee Sujeong, a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Biomedical Science, were selected as recipients of the '2024 Busan City Outstanding R&D Achievements.' On September 26, they received the Busan Mayor's Award and the Busan Institute for Science and Technology Promotion of Higher Education President's Award at the opening ceremony of the '10th Busan R&D Week,' held at the Westin Chosun Busan in Haeundae-gu.

Director Jeong Seokchan was selected in the social achievement category for his contributions to revitalizing the local economy by fostering digital innovation talent in the southeastern region, and was awarded the Busan Mayor's Award.


Director Jeong was recognized for his achievements in establishing the only graduate school Department of Artificial Intelligence in the southeastern region, implementing the ICT Innovation Square project, and hosting the XR-Metaverse International Academic Conference, thereby contributing to strengthening the AI capabilities of Busan-based companies and building the AI ecosystem in the region.


Director Jeong stated, "By nurturing AI experts and developing industry-oriented AI technologies needed by local companies, I will strive to establish Busan as a leading city in the future of AI and a hub of digital innovation."


Lee Sujeong, a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Biomedical Science, was recognized in the scientific achievement category for her work on 'Development of Host-Derived Psychrophilic Probiotics,' which developed functional probiotics to improve the growth and immunity of fish and establish sustainable aquaculture base technologies. She was awarded the Busan Institute for Science and Technology Promotion of Higher Education President's Award.


Lee Sujeong said, "I began this research to address issues such as the overuse of antibiotics and environmental pollution in aquaculture. I will continue to do my best in probiotic research for sustainable and eco-friendly aquaculture and for public health."


The Busan City Outstanding R&D Achievements are selected by Busan City and the Busan Institute for Science and Technology Promotion of Higher Education (BISTEP), evaluating creativity, excellence, and effectiveness among the past year's research outcomes to continuously drive innovation and strengthen the competitiveness of science and technology in the Busan region. This year, eight individuals were honored in two categories: scientific achievement and social achievement.
