President Yoon's Veto Blocked... Joguk Hyuksindang to File Constitutional Review Request

The Party for National Innovation has put a brake on President Yoon Seok-yeol's repeated exercise of the veto power (reconsideration request).

On the 30th, Park Eun-jung, a member of the Party for National Innovation, held a press conference at the National Assembly and announced, "We will file a constitutional dispute adjudication regarding the president's exercise of the veto power on bills."

Park said, "The veto power exercised today by President Yoon Seok-yeol has exceeded its intended function of procedurally controlling reckless or flawed legislation by the National Assembly and its role in checking the legislature to maintain balance in state affairs," adding, "It is an act that infringes on the legislative authority of the National Assembly beyond the inherent constitutional limits."

He stated, "The fact that President Yoon has exercised the veto power on bills 24 times in just half of his five-year term far surpasses the 45 times during the 12-year administration of President Rhee Syngman," and added, "The exercise of the veto power by President Yoon itself constitutes an abuse of power beyond constitutional limits."

He further emphasized, "It is a clear abuse of power that violates the 'principle of conflict of interest prohibition,' which prohibits conflicts with private interests that could improperly influence the president's public duties and responsibilities."

Park said, "Through filing a constitutional dispute adjudication, we will correct President Yoon's abuse of the veto power and restore the infringed legislative authority of the National Assembly."

Meanwhile, on the same day, the government passed reconsideration requests on the Special Prosecutor Act for Mrs. Kim Geon-hee, the Special Prosecutor Act for Chae Sang-byeong, and the Local Currency Act through a Cabinet meeting.
