Seong Kyung Kim Announces Limited Edition Dokdo Day Release
Special Edition to Celebrate October 25, Dokdo Day
Seong Kyung Kim, who previously garnered attention by refusing to erase Dokdo from its packaging and giving up exports to Japan, has now announced the release of a special edition to commemorate Dokdo Day.
On September 30, Seong Kyung Kim stated, "We will begin selling the Seong Kyung Traditional Laver Dokdo Day Special Edition, produced to commemorate Dokdo Day on October 25, starting from October 1." The 'Dokdo Day Special Edition' laver is a limited-edition traditional table laver product specially produced by Jidopyo Seong Kyung Kim to mark Dokdo Day in 2024. Seong Kyung Kim explained, "We decided to launch this product in celebration of Dokdo Day, which commemorates Dokdo, a beautiful island of the Republic of Korea."
On October 25, 1900, Emperor Gojong of the Korean Empire enacted and promulgated Imperial Decree No. 41 to declare that Dokdo is Korean territory. Accordingly, October 25 has been designated as the anniversary of the decree, a day to express the will to protect Dokdo and to declare that Dokdo is part of the Republic of Korea. The special edition will be available both online and offline starting October 1, and a portion of the proceeds from the Dokdo Edition products will be donated to the Dokdo Protection Fund of the Dokdo Love Movement Headquarters.
Previously, Seong Kyung Kim gained fame when it was reported that exports to Japan were halted because Japanese buyers objected to the Dokdo labeling. Subsequently, in February, a surge in domestic orders led to the product selling out.
