Activation of Bicycles with 3-Hour Free Use
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that the operation of Onnuri public bicycles, which had been suspended for two months due to system improvements, will resume on a trial basis starting October 1.
The main improvements to the system include ▲changing the bicycle rental method to a QR code scan system using smartphones ▲modifying the 3-hour free usage fee for public bicycles, providing convenience for users when renting and returning bicycles, and allowing free use of Onnuri bicycles.

The method to use Onnuri bicycles is to download and install the new Onnuri bicycle app called ‘Suncheon City Public Bicycle Onnuri’ on your smartphone, then use the app to scan the QR code attached to the smart lock on the rear wheel of the bicycle to use it.
After use, return the bicycle to the nearest Onnuri bicycle rental station near your destination.
The city established a rental and return system using GPS and QR codes this year to improve the public bicycle system.
Through this, the installation cost of bicycle rental stations was significantly reduced to about one-tenth of the previous cost.
With the saved costs, the city plans to greatly expand the operation of public bicycles according to the future usage volume of Onnuri bicycles.
In particular, by operating Onnuri bicycle rental stations around city bus stops, the city plans to increase citizen satisfaction by enabling one-stop use of public transportation, bicycles, and pedestrian travel.
A city official said, “Through system improvements, Onnuri bicycles will establish themselves as a short-distance lifestyle transportation means,” and added, “We will strive to make it an important transportation method for building a large-scale poster city with many users.”
Meanwhile, the city plans to stabilize the new rental system and improve citizen inconveniences through a one-month trial operation of Onnuri bicycles starting October 1, and officially launch the service on November 1.
