Uijeongbu-si Conducts Joint Elevator Accident Response Drill in 2024

Uijeongbu City conducted a "Joint Elevator Accident Response Drill," simulating an elevator entrapment incident caused by a power outage during a disaster, on the 26th at the Clean Water Business Office.

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 30th that on the 26th, a "Joint Elevator Accident Response Drill" was conducted at the Clear Water Plant, simulating an elevator entrapment accident caused by a power outage during a disaster.

This drill, designed to strengthen initial response capabilities and minimize casualties in the event of an elevator accident, involved about 100 participants including city officials, Uijeongbu Fire Station, Korea Elevator Safety Agency Gyeonggi Northern Branch, elevator maintenance companies, and representatives from apartment complex management offices.

Prior to the drill, the Korea Elevator Safety Agency Gyeonggi Northern Branch provided education on major elevator accident cases, prevention measures, and elevator usage safety rules to enhance overall understanding of elevator safety.

The drill simulated a situation where an elevator stops due to a power outage, trapping passengers inside. The process was reenacted starting from the management entity's report, rapid situation dissemination, initial response, dispatch of the 119 rescue team to the scene, and rescue activities. Notably, the drill was broadcast live on a screen in the auditorium to maximize the interest and sense of presence for observers.

Kim Bo-kyung, Director of the Climate and Energy Division, expressed gratitude to the related organizations, apartment complex management office staff, and residents who cooperated with the drill. She stated, "This practical simulation drill will serve as a good foundation for developing initial response capabilities for various types of elevator accidents," and added, "We will continue to make every effort to spread a safe elevator usage culture."
