The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), the largest single-scale bar association in the world, will hold its international conference (Global Conference, sponsored by Legal News) from October 16 to 18 at the Hanyang University Institute of Technology (HIT) in Haengdang-dong, Seoul.

The theme of this conference is "Cross-Border Litigation and Transactions under a New Legal Paradigm." Over 150 New York State lawyers active worldwide, U.S. federal judges, and domestic legal professionals will exchange wisdom and opinions on how the legal community should prepare for and respond to economic and social changes brought about by advancements in AI and other technologies.

On the afternoon of the 17th, Judge Jennifer Choe-Groves of the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) will give a keynote presentation on "Trends and Responses in International Trade Wars and Patent Litigation," with trade patent litigation experts participating as panelists.

Additionally, Hester Peirce, a senior commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will discuss the regulation and prospects of virtual currencies via a Zoom meeting.

Notably, three distinguished judges from the U.S. federal courts will attend this event. Among them, Judge Choe-Groves, a third-generation Korean American, currently serves on the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT). When the Trump administration implemented import regulation policies in 2017, affected companies filed lawsuits at the CIT, and Judge Choe-Groves handled many cases involving Asian companies. Depending on the results of the U.S. presidential election in November, the CIT is expected to handle lawsuits that will significantly impact Korean export companies. Judge Choe-Groves is also assigned to a federal court in Delaware, where she deals with patent litigation involving Korean companies.

Judge Sidney H. Stein is a judge at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which has jurisdiction over New York City's financial district (Wall Street). He is currently presiding over a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by media outlets such as the New York Times and the Author’s Guild against OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

Magistrate Judge Sallie Kim, an expert in patent litigation, serves at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, which has jurisdiction over Los Angeles.

NYSBA has a 140-year history with approximately 74,000 affiliated lawyers, about 3,500 of whom practice in over 100 countries worldwide. It holds global conferences annually, traveling to countries around the world.
