Jeong Myeong-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong, "Opening of Seohae Line to Support Development of Hwaseong City's Western Region"

On-site Inspection Ahead of Seohae Line Double-Track Railway Opening

Jeong Myeong-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, visited the site of Hyangnam Station on the 30th to conduct a preliminary inspection ahead of the opening of the double-track Seohae Line railway between Hongseong and Songsan, scheduled to open in November. After receiving a report on the current status of the railway construction, Mayor Jeong encouraged the on-site personnel, urged safety, and checked the progress of the construction while touring the site.

The double-track Seohae Line railway connecting Hwaseong City and Hongseong County in Chungnam Province spans approximately 90 km and was promoted to stimulate regional development and disperse freight volume concentrated on the Gyeongbu Line. The Hwaseong City section of the railway is 28 km long and includes three stations: Hyangnam Station, Hwaseong City Hall Station, and Seohwaseong Station.

Once the railway opens, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the Seoul metropolitan area and the Chungcheong region and alleviate chronic congestion by dispersing demand on the Seohaean Expressway. In particular, when the yet-to-be-connected section of the Sinansan Line from Wonsi to Seohwaseong is completed, the Seohaean railway network connecting Goyang, Gimpo, Siheung, Ansan, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Asan, and Hongseong from north to south will be completed.

Mayor Jeong said, "The opening of the railway in the western region of Hwaseong City, which previously had no railway, is a great achievement," adding, "Once the Sinansan Line extension to Hyangnam opens, the metropolitan transportation network will be dramatically improved, supporting the sustainable development of Hwaseong City."

Meanwhile, Hwaseong City regards railway expansion as a key infrastructure for urban development and is focusing on related policies. Currently, eight lines including the Seohae Line, Sinansan Line, and Dongtan-Indeokwon Line are under design or construction in Hwaseong City. Additionally, eight lines such as the Gyeonggi Southern East-West Line and the extension of the GTX (Great Train Express) C Line to Byeongjeom are either planned or under consideration.
