Over 7,000 Visitors Attend Military Equipment Exhibition, Barracks Experience, and Various Participation Programs

Gyeonggi-do Discusses Countermeasures through Security Seminar on Drones and Border Area Evacuation Plans
The '2024 Gyeonggi Peace and Security Festival,' held over two days on the 27th and 28th at Geumo Gyeonggwan Tourist Square in front of the northern government office of Gyeonggi Province, concluded with the participation of over 7,000 visitors.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 30th, under the slogan "Security Exists, Connecting Peace," the event showcased a total of more than 60 pieces of army, navy, and air force equipment, along with activities such as making Taegeukgi flags and fire safety experiences, which received positive responses from attendees.
Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense's Remains Recovery Unit displayed photos and personal effects of soldiers who died in the Korean War, emphasizing the value and importance of peace. The Air Force's 10th Fighter Wing exhibited six life-sized model aerial munitions, including AIM-9X and GBU-12, and provided opportunities to experience an actual air force cockpit. The Marine Corps 2nd Division attracted attention with maritime equipment such as rubber boats, diving suits, and camouflage gear.
In particular, the Army's 8th Division showcased the K-9 self-propelled howitzer, K-2 tank, K-21 armored vehicle, and K-10 ammunition resupply armored vehicle, capturing the visitors' attention.
At the Uijeongbu Fire Station experience booth, participants learned and practiced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) alongside firefighters. The mobile safety experience vehicle, designed for children’s eye level, offered realistic safety programs and was especially popular among kids. The Northern Autonomous Police Committee contributed by providing opportunities to ride in mobile patrol vehicles, promoting the autonomous police committee, and helping ensure visitor safety and order during the event.
Following last year’s success, the Army 1st Corps Taekwondo demonstration was the most popular attraction, alongside performances by the Army 8th and 25th Division military bands, dance shows, and musical performances that captivated the audience.
Meanwhile, the '2024 Gyeonggi Peace and Security Seminar' was held at the Peace Nuri Hall of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office, attended by about 150 people including Lee Soon-gu, Emergency Planning Officer; Jo Seong-hwan, Chairman of the Planning and Finance Committee; and emergency preparedness officers from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.
Professor Kim Seong-woo of the Army University presented on establishing response systems against threats from unmanned aerial vehicles including drones, while Park Gye-ho, Policy Advisory Committee member of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, discussed evacuation plans and facility construction for residents in border areas, sharing their insights.
In the subsequent discussion, chaired by Professor Jo Kyung-hwan of Sungkyunkwan University, participants including retired Major General Lee Bo-hyung, Kim Hyung-seok, Director of the Drone Center at the Korea Drone Industry Association, Professor Ryu Dong-kwan of Sunmoon University, and Lee Seong-woo, Director of the Global Regional Research Office at the Gyeonggi Research Institute, deliberated on drone threats and Gyeonggi Province’s role in protecting residents in border areas.
Um Gi-man, Emergency Planning Officer of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This was a meaningful time providing a good opportunity to reflect on the importance of peace and security together with the residents." He added, "We will synthesize experts’ opinions to incorporate them into policies and prioritize residents’ safety by expanding a robust security infrastructure."
