Gyeonggi-do and Gyeonggi FTA Center Break Down Barriers for SMEs' Overseas Certification and Strengthen Support

Gyeonggi-do and Gyeonggi FTA Center Break Down Barriers for SMEs' Overseas Certification and Strengthen Support Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi FTA Trade Promotion Center held overseas certification briefings in the food and K-beauty sectors on the 9th and 27th of last month to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the province in expanding overseas.

As K-industries such as K-food and K-beauty have recently gained global popularity, related companies in the province have been actively entering overseas markets. However, the complex certification procedures and regulations of each country have posed a significant burden on SMEs.

In response, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi FTA Center provide detailed guidance on overseas certification systems, which are one of the non-tariff barriers in key markets such as the Middle East and ASEAN, and offer customized consulting to support companies' overseas expansion.

On the 9th, together with the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), the ‘Export Licensing Education for Greater China and ASEAN (Food and Food Contact Materials)’ focused intensively on the food and food contact material licensing procedures in major markets such as China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Then, on the 27th, in cooperation with the Gyeonggi Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration, the ‘K-Beauty Middle East and ASEAN Overseas Certification and Registration System Briefing’ was held, providing guidance on major cosmetic certification and registration systems for the cosmetics industry, including ▲UAE ECAS·EQM certification ▲ASEAN cosmetics registration system ▲Halal certification system.

A representative A from a local SME who attended the briefing said, "From the perspective of SMEs, it is not easy to understand the types of product certification systems, acquisition processes, and costs in the countries they want to export to," adding, "The Gyeonggi FTA Center’s briefing on responding to non-tariff barriers was very helpful."

Moon Doo-sik, Director of the International Trade Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "Due to recent changes in the external environment such as economic bloc formation, non-tariff barriers like overseas certification systems are being strengthened," and added, "We will actively support local export SMEs to overcome difficulties and conduct smooth export activities through continuous guidance, consulting on overseas certification systems, and various linked support projects."

Gyeonggi Province is promoting various export support projects such as FTA consultation and consulting, global supply chain support projects, as well as non-tariff barrier response support projects, so that companies can recognize the importance of responding to overseas certification and strengthen their export capabilities through proper responses.
