Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 30th that it has partnered with the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and Suhyup Noryangjin Fisheries Co., Ltd. to improve the underground walkway of Noryangjin Fisheries Market.

The underground walkway of Noryangjin Fisheries Market (16-40 Noryangjin-dong) was opened in 1975 to facilitate smooth passage for citizens using the 'Fisheries Market' and 'Korea Refrigeration' at the time. However, it has been neglected for a long period, leading to deterioration of facilities, which has consistently raised concerns about urban aesthetics and safety issues.

On the 26th, the district office signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in managing the Noryangjin Fisheries Market underground walkway with the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and Suhyup Noryangjin Fisheries at Dongjak-gu Office. They agreed to conduct safety inspections of the underground walkway and proceed with repair and modernization projects. Additionally, the three organizations will collaborate to resolve issues related to the fisheries market, such as improving vehicle access routes, to revitalize the local economy.

Last year, the district office held consultations with Seoul City and Suhyup to clarify the responsible parties for the maintenance and management of the underground walkway and has been promoting the MOU to expedite improvements.

Mayor Park Il-ha stated, “This MOU will accelerate the improvement of the aging Noryangjin Fisheries Market underground walkway. We will continue to do our best in various ways to ensure residents' safety and create a pleasant urban environment.”
