It has been revealed that nearly 2,500 people have received medical treatment for paraphilic disorders such as voyeurism, exhibitionism, and pedophilia over the past six years. Among them, 8 out of 10 were in their 20s to 40s, and those aged 10 and under accounted for 8.6%.

On the 29th, Park Heeseung, a member of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, analyzed data submitted by the National Health Insurance Service and found that a total of 2,455 people were treated for paraphilic disorders from 2019 to the end of June this year.

Among those diagnosed, people in their 20s were the largest group with 749 individuals (30.5%), followed by those in their 30s with 747 (30.4%), and those in their 40s with 437 (17.8%). Those aged 10 and under numbered 210 (8.6%), while those in their 50s were 173 (7.0%), 60s were 97 (4.0%), and 70 and older were 42 (1.7%).

By type, unspecified paraphilic disorders accounted for 928 cases, making up 36.6%. Next was voyeurism, which involves observing others without their knowledge, with 627 cases (24.7%), exhibitionism, exposing one's own body to others or in public places, with 514 cases (20.3%), and other paraphilias, which include various sexual deviations such as obscene phone calls, rubbing one's body against others in public places, sexual acts with animals, and strangulation, totaling 181 cases (7.1%).

Additionally, pedophilia, a sexual preference for boys or girls, accounted for 108 cases (4.3%), fetishistic disorder, which involves sexual arousal and pleasure from inanimate objects, had 93 cases (3.7%), fetishistic transvestism, wearing clothes of the opposite sex, had 56 cases (2.2%), multiple paraphilic disorders involving fetishism, sadism, and masochism appeared in 16 cases (0.6%), and sadomasochism, which involves inflicting pain, humiliation, or bondage, was found in 14 cases (0.6%).

Lawmaker Park emphasized, "Social awareness of paraphilic disorders is low in our society, so fewer people visit hospitals, meaning the actual number of patients experiencing the same symptoms is likely much higher. Since these disorders can go beyond simple personal sexual preferences and may cause harm to others, the government should ensure early diagnosis and appropriate treatment."
