Yongin City Hosts 'Yongin Citizen Festa' to Commemorate Citizens' Day

Cyber Science Festival and Youth Festival Also Held Together at Yongin Mir Stadium on 28-29

The '2024 Yongin Citizen Festa,' a festival for the citizens of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, was held for two days on the 28th and 29th at Yongin Mir Stadium to commemorate 'Yongin Citizen's Day.'


Opened on the 28th, the 'Yongin Citizen Festa' was held in conjunction with various events including the Yongin Cyber Science Festival, Yongin Youth Festival, Food Industry Expo, and Yongin Food Festa, along with a commemorative ceremony and performances. Notably, on the opening day, a fan signing event was held for Woo Sang-hyeok, the male high jump national representative affiliated with Yongin City.

Before the 'Yongin Citizen's Day' commemorative ceremony on that day, various pre-event programs such as the Amazing Science Experiment Show, Magic Bubble Show, and Challenge! AI Golden Bell were held at the venue. The commemorative ceremony for Yongin Citizen's Day, which started at 5 p.m., was attended by Mayor Lee, Chairperson Yoo Jin-seon of the Yongin City Council, city and provincial council members, members of the National Assembly, officials from various local institutions and organizations, and about 3,000 citizens.


In his congratulatory speech, Mayor Lee stated, "We are creating a '2040 Urban Plan' based on the estimate that the population of Yongin City could reach about 1.58 million," adding, "We will focus on expanding various living infrastructures in preparation for the significant population increase." He also said, "The semiconductor-related investment to be made in Yongin amounts to a staggering 502 trillion won, which will establish the world's largest semiconductor ecosystem for a single city," and added, "The city will do its best to develop Yongin into a better place to live by gathering strength and wisdom together with its citizens."


A sister city agreement was also established with an overseas city. On this day, Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin and Bill Gravell, Williamson County Judge of Texas, USA, held a sister city agreement signing ceremony between the two cities. Williamson County oversees 27 cities including Taylor City, and this is the first time Yongin City has formed a sister city relationship with a U.S. county. The Williamson County Judge said, "The cooperative relationship between Yongin City and Williamson County is expected to be of great help to our generation and the next generations who will lead the future."

Attending the event were officials from sister cities including Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, as well as representatives from Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do; Sacheon City, Gyeongsangnam-do; Sokcho City, Gangwon-do; Hampyeong County, Jeollanam-do; Danyang County, Chungcheongbuk-do; and Goseong County, Gyeongsangnam-do. Mayor Lee held a welcome dinner with these sister city officials and expressed his intention for continued exchanges.


On the second day of the event, the 29th, the Yongin Cyber Science Festival, Yongin Youth Festival, and Yongin Food Festa were held, along with various performances and citizen participation programs such as magician Ryu El’s Magic Bubble Show, Amazing Science Experiment Show, and Challenge! AI Golden Bell.
