Prosecutor General's Office Launches Criminal Division Strengthening TF... "Enhancing Response Capabilities to Livelihood Crimes"

TF Officially Launched and Holds First Meeting

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office has launched the 'Prosecutors' Criminal Division Enhancement Task Force (TF),' composed of prosecutors from the criminal divisions of frontline prosecutors' offices, to strengthen its response capabilities against crimes affecting the public. This is the first TF organization established by Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung, who emphasized 'strengthening the criminal division' after taking office.

According to the legal community on the 29th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office officially launched the Prosecutors' Criminal Division Enhancement TF on the 27th, consisting of seven prosecutors with 5 to 11 years of experience from criminal divisions of local prosecutors' offices nationwide, and held its first meeting.

The TF is composed of prosecutors from different affiliated offices, including Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office, Daegu Western District Prosecutors' Office, and Anyang Prosecutors' Office. It is known that prosecutors of various seniority levels were selected, ranging from senior prosecutors to junior prosecutors who recently passed the bar exam.

The launch of the TF follows the new Prosecutor General's announcement on the 19th, shortly after taking office, to strengthen the frontline criminal divisions responsible for investigating crimes affecting the public.

In his inaugural speech, Prosecutor General Shim stated, "The prosecution must devote all efforts to protecting the people from crimes affecting their daily lives," and added, "We will significantly strengthen the personnel and organization of the frontline criminal divisions at the forefront of such crimes."

The criminal divisions, which investigate everyday crimes such as sex crimes, drug offenses, voice phishing, jeonse fraud, and defamation, have been particularly affected by severe personnel shortages despite the prosecution's chronic manpower difficulties.

The TF plans to hold weekly or biweekly online and offline meetings, based on which the Supreme Prosecutors' Office will conduct meetings with the relevant departments for interim reviews and prepare specific measures to strengthen the criminal divisions within this year.
