"Straight into the Water During Broadcast"... Weather Caster Saves Woman Live on Air

Fox News Caster Rescues Woman Trapped in Flooded Car
"Anyone Would Have Done the Same in That Situation"

Hurricane 'Ida' swept through the southeastern United States, causing dozens of casualties, and a meteorologist reporting on the typhoon was caught on live broadcast rescuing a woman who had fallen into the water, drawing attention.

On the 27th (local time), AP News, CNN, and others reported that Fox News meteorologist Bob Van Dillen rescued a woman while live broadcasting the flooding situation in the Atlanta area of Georgia, USA. At the time, Van Dillen was reporting on the damage on a flooded road in the region. Suddenly, behind him, a woman trapped in a submerged vehicle screamed for help. The woman had been trapped in her car due to suddenly rising water while returning home late at night.

Van Dillen told the woman, "I just called 911, so don't worry," and continued the broadcast. However, shortly after, he turned to the camera and said, "I will see if there is a way to help this woman more, so please wait a moment," and then jumped into the water.

Later, the camera captured Van Dillen approaching the submerged vehicle, pulling the woman out, and carrying her on his back to safety.

Standing again in front of the camera, Van Dillen recounted the situation, saying, "I took out my wallet and phone from my pants pocket and immediately entered the water, which was up to chest height. The woman inside the car was almost submerged up to her neck."

He added, "Anyone would have done the same in that situation," and gave his shirt to the woman, whose body temperature had dropped after being in the water for a long time. Shortly after, paramedics arrived at the scene, and the woman's husband, who came after being contacted, repeatedly thanked Van Dillen.

Hurricane Ida, which made landfall in Florida on the 26th and struck the southeastern states including Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, was a Category 4 hurricane, the second strongest of the five categories, with winds reaching 225 km/h.

It has since weakened to a tropical storm but caused at least 41 deaths. Flood warnings remain in effect in areas including Georgia, which Van Dillen reported on, and North Carolina.

At least 3.1 million households experienced power outages, and some homes were destroyed, resulting in significant material damage. The estimated property damage in the U.S. due to this hurricane is between $15 billion and $26 billion (approximately 19.6 trillion to 34 trillion KRW).
