'Failure to Diligently Conduct Safety Inspections' Violation

Seoul City has additionally imposed a one-month business suspension administrative penalty on GS Construction, the contractor, in connection with last year's underground parking lot collapse accident at apartments in Geomdan New Town, Incheon.
On the 29th, Seoul City announced that as of the 26th, GS Construction was given a one-month suspension of civil engineering and architectural construction business operations due to failure to diligently conduct safety inspections. The suspension period is from December 1 to 31.
The city imposed this penalty on GS Construction for negligently performing safety inspections in accordance with Article 62, Paragraph 2 of the Construction Technology Promotion Act, based on Article 82, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 6, Item (d) of the Framework Act on the Construction Industry.
Earlier, in January, Seoul City had issued a one-month business suspension administrative penalty from March 1 to 31 related to the Geomdan apartment underground parking lot collapse accident, citing GS Construction's poor quality management as the issue.
In response, GS Construction filed a request for suspension of execution of the business suspension penalty with the court, and at the end of February, the court accepted the suspension, temporarily halting the penalty's effect. GS Construction also applied for suspension of execution regarding an eight-month suspension penalty received from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the court approved the suspension request.
GS Construction plans to take legal action against Seoul City's additional one-month administrative penalty. GS Construction stated, "The penalty notification has not yet been delivered, and as with the previous penalty, we plan to respond legally."
