David Grusky, a Stanford University professor and expert on income security systems renowned for his research on inequality, provides an evaluation of the 'Seoul Didimdol Income' program, now in its third year.

According to Seoul City on the 29th, leading international scholars will participate in the '2024 Seoul International Didimdol Income Forum' held at DDP (Art Hall 2) on the 7th of next month.

This year's forum theme is "Exploring Solutions to Poverty and Income Gap Reduction ? A Paradigm Shift in Income Security." Before the opening ceremony, a special dialogue featuring Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Lucas Chancel, Director of the World Inequality Lab, and Professor David Grusky of Stanford will take place, followed by three keynote speech sessions.

Professor David Grusky, a special dialogue speaker, is an expert on income security systems who has studied inequality for over 20 years. Since 2006, he has served as the director of the Institute for Poverty and Inequality Studies at Stanford University and, starting in 2024, as a board member of the Basic Income Lab. Stanford's Basic Income Lab is also a partner institution of the 'Global Income Security Network' operated by Seoul City. The Stanford Institute for Poverty and Inequality collaborates with over 500 researchers, including Claudia Goldin, David Card, and James Heckman, to diagnose social inequality and seek scientifically evidence-based solutions.

The keynote speaker lineup includes Lucas Chancel, a globally recognized rising scholar in economics, director of the World Inequality Lab, and associate professor at Sciences Po, Paris. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear Chancel's presentation on "The Fight Against Inequality in the 21st Century," reflecting his extensive research on inequality through various activities.

Lucas Chancel, the youngest among the five directors of the World Inequality Lab, delivered a keynote speech at the 2019 UN High-Level Political Forum and has recently been active with presentations at the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum) this year.

Following the presentation of Session 1, "Evaluation of the Second Year Performance of Seoul Didimdol Income," Session 2 will feature Dr. Elizabeth Rose, who led the globally acclaimed "Sam Altman Basic Income Experiment," presenting research findings. This is the first time the results of the Sam Altman basic income experiment are being presented in Korea; following the initial results announced in July, more research findings will be released in the future.

In Session 3, three international speakers will present cases of income security systems from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Finland, providing insights into the current status of international income security systems. Finally, Dr. Pasi Moisio, a research professor at Finland's National Institute for Health and Welfare who experienced Finland's basic income experiment in 2017, will explain the Finnish basic income experiment and its outcomes.

Jung Sang-hoon, Director of Welfare at Seoul City, said, "At a time when global inequality is intensifying and accurate diagnosis of welfare systems is necessary, we aim to discuss income security systems from various countries and the achievements of Seoul Didimdol Income with international experts." He added, "Through this forum, we will identify areas for improvement in Seoul Didimdol Income and develop it into a representative K-welfare model for South Korea."
