According to local Chinese media on the 28th, around 3:20 a.m. on the 27th in Zheng'an County, Guizhou Province, rocks flowing down from a construction site covered the apartment complex. The rocks that covered the apartment buildings were roughly the height of three apartment floors. A resident who was affected said, "Rocks directly poured into our home on the second floor," but added, "No one was injured at the time." Another resident explained, "The noise was very loud and lasted a long time, and vibrations were felt," adding, "The entire first to third floors were hit by the rocks, and many cracks appeared on the upper floors as well."
An official from the China Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development stated, "It is estimated that a landslide occurred around 3 a.m. on the 26th, and the exact cause is under investigation." However, the apartment residents do not believe it was a simple landslide; they suspect that blasting operations at the construction site next to the apartment at 3 a.m. caused the accident. In fact, when looking down at the accident site from the sky, it was confirmed that the rocks were split in one direction.
The problem is that the outer wall of the apartment, which was destroyed by the rocks, is likely a load-bearing wall supporting the entire building. Residents urged for countermeasures, saying, "The entire 30-story apartment is noticeably tilted, posing a serious risk to the entire complex."
However, authorities announced that although six apartment buildings were damaged in this accident, there were no casualties as no one was present at the site, and no nighttime construction activities were underway. They emphasized that experts have been hired to conduct site inspections and orderly follow-up demolition work is in progress.
