Gyeonggi-do Taxi Labor-Management-Government Council Held... A Forum for Communication and Consultation Gyeonggi Province held the 2nd Labor-Management-Government Council on the 27th at the Northern Government Complex, with representatives from taxi labor, management, and government present.

On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province held the 2nd Tripartite Council meeting at the Northern Government Complex, with representatives from taxi labor, management, and government participating together. This followed the 1st meeting held in May, which resumed after six years.

At this meeting, five representatives attended, including the Head of the Taxi Transportation Division of Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeonggi Province Private Taxi Transport Business Association, the Gyeonggi Province Taxi Transport Business Association, the Gyeonggi Branch of the National Taxi Labor Union Federation, and the Gyeonggi Branch of the National Democratic Taxi Labor Union Federation.

They discussed practical measures for the development of the taxi industry in Gyeonggi Province and for mutual cooperation between labor and management, explained improvement plans for major taxi policies promoted by the province, and gathered opinions.

First, the province shared the progress on agenda items from the 1st Tripartite Council, including on-site inspections of illegal paid transportation in cities and counties, and implementation of improvement orders for premium taxis in cities and counties.

Additionally, as a new project for establishing taxi rest areas by 2025, the province introduced simple rest areas utilizing idle spaces with excellent accessibility such as LPG filling stations, and actively requested each association to apply for the creation of rest areas.

They discussed plans to expand the project for improving treatment of corporate taxi drivers to attract new personnel amid the aging workforce and young people’s reluctance to join the industry.

The province introduced the amendment to Article 11-2 of the recently promulgated “Taxi Development Act” on the 10th, informing that the “40-hour weekly salary system” has been postponed for two years until 2026, and requested that this be communicated to the corporate taxi industry.

Regarding financial support for the Gyeonggi Province Taxi Transport Business Association’s traffic safety experience education, the participants agreed on the effectiveness of the education in improving driving habits and reducing traffic accidents, and agreed to review the creation of educational conditions to promote a re-contract with the “Korea Transportation Safety Authority Traffic Safety Experience Education Center.”

Kim Seong-hwan, Head of the Taxi Transportation Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “In the midst of drastic changes such as the aging of taxi workers, labor shortages, and high license prices, we aim to create a place where labor, management, and government unite to strengthen mutual cooperation.” He added, “We will continuously provide opportunities for communication and consultation to develop a foundation for the mutual growth of taxis in Gyeonggi Province.”
